JOB OVERVIEW:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is primarily responsible for the financial, administrative and risk management operations of Driftpile Cree Nation (DCN). This position will develop financial and operational strategies, while monitoring various control systems and reporting accurate financial data to Chief and Council. The CFO will also oversee managers and employees in the accounting and financial departments. The CFO provides strategic financial and policy advice to the Chief Administrative Officer, Chief and Council and other First Nation-owned entities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in managing the Nation in future growth and direction, while supporting financial initiatives
  • Develop financial strategies by contributing and reporting financial data, analysis and recommended growth and direction
  • Establish functional goals that align with the Nation objectives
  • Monitor financial performance by analyzing data and results and initiate correct accounting and financial principles to minimize risk and variances
  • Forecast capitals, staff requirements and facilities and work together with HR and Management to attract, hire and retain a strong team of accounting and financial experts
  • Assists in developing Nation strategic goals by analyzing current trends, evaluating critical measurements and strategies, resolving problems and implementing change procedures

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in finance or business administration or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) along with five years of progressively responsible experience in a similar role
  • Extensive experience in financial planning and strategy, corporate finance, budgeting, managing profitability and quality management skills
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills, and proficiency in multi-tasking
  • Vast managerial experience with a demonstrated ability to lead and energize multi-level work teams to respond and get results
  • Knowledge of financial management systems at work level, principles and practices of budget preparation, ongoing financial planning for multi-year activities, process for purchasing and the maintenance of records and administration
  • Knowledge of Federal programs and policies
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite work processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and database application and e-mail.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Fluency in Cree is an asset
  • CPIC & CWIS required
