The Economic Development program is administered by the Economic Development Director. Large requests or proposals are dealt with by the Chief and Council and any decisions are made based on approval/disapproval by a quorum (any 5 of them) of Council.

DCN Economic Development Program Roles & Responsibilities
The Economic development program provides financial support to its qualifying band members in the following areas:

- Fishing and Trapping
- Agricultural
- Arts and Crafts

Location
- The Driftpile Cree Nation (DCN) #450 is located on the Driftpile River First Nation Reserve #150 which is in the central northwest area in the Province of Alberta.
- It is accessible by road, rail, and water.
- It is located 50kms. east of High Prairie, 72 kms. west of Slave Lake, and 302 kms. north-west of Edmonton, Alberta. The Primary Highway #2 provides access to ground transportation.
- The Reserve land mass is approximately 15,688 acres and is on the south shore of the Lesser Slave Lake.

It is a Woodland Cree speaking community.
Community Objectives
Economic Development self-sufficiency continues to be one of the primary objectives of the people of the Driftpile Cree Nation. Pursuing of business and employment opportunities is one process to achieve this objective.
Mission Statement
The Driftpile Cree Nation, through practical management, is intent upon increasing the number of business opportunities (includes employment) available to its members; and advancing collective and individual self sufficiency with the assistance of the Economic Development Program.
Goals
Short Term Goals
- Program Administrative requirements: To provide and meet the INAC Economic Development Program administrative requirements through the provisions of technical and administrative services.
- Commercial Land Development: With the passage of a Land Designation Referendum Vote, January 2004, aggressive activities toward site preparation and development, infrastructure development, and leasing activities shall be engaged.
- Building & Hardware Supply Centre: Continue progress reporting with Community Information Sessions regarding the overall progress of this project; construction of building; operating personnel recruitment; implementation of operational and management activities of this business.
Long Term Goals
- Grocery Outlet: Provision of bulk groceries to community, health and educations institutions, and surrounding communities / businesses.
- Pharmacy/Medical Clinic: Provision of a leased building to provide pharmaceutical and medical services.
- Multi-Office building: Provision of a leased building to lease office space to multi-business sectors such as legal counsel, finance, medical, etc.
- Self-sustaining Community.
Business Development - Equity Contributions
DCN Economic Development Program funds used for contributions towards DCN member(s) businesses where:
- A new business is applying for start up costs.
- An existing business is applying for financing.
- No other funding is available.
- A business activity is a major livelihood activity of the member.
- Contribution is material as opposed to monetary (i.e. traps, nets)
- Contribution is a non-cash DFN supplier agreement (i.e. P/O)
Expected Results / Expected Completion Date
Increased number of DFN Member businesses. Equity Contributions comparison with DFN member contribution to determine value. DFN Member businesses become self sustaining entities. On-going activity:
